Estimation of Carbon Emission Reduction in a Cogeneration System Using Sawdust
The reduction of carbon emissions resulting from using sawdust in a cogeneration system was estimated. Sawdust briquettes were produced using a screw press and the elemental analysis, ash content, density, calorific value, crushing strength, and moisture content of the briquettes were determined. The energy and material balance of a 25 MW combined heat and power plant and the estimation of emissions in the plant and the baseline emissions were carried out. To make the required impact, five such plants were recommended to be built in Lagos State of Nigeria giving a total emission reduction of 545,655 tonnes CO2/yr.
