Growth and characterization of novel ferroelectric urea-succinic acid single crystals
Single crystals of a new ferroelectric material, urea-succinic acid have been grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique up to a dimension of 20 x 10 x 2 mm(3) within a period of 4 weeks. The surface morphology and the structure of the grown crystals were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD). The presence of title compound in the crystal lattice has been qualitatively determined by FTIR analysis. The transparency of the grown crystal was confirmed by optical absorption spectrum. The mechanical properties and the thermal stability of the grown crystal were evaluated by Vickers microhardness test and TG/DTA, respectively. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the grown crystal was carried out as a function of frequency for different temperatures 413, 433 K, respectively, and the results are discussed.
