Growth and characterizations of calcium tantalum gallium garnet single crystal
A new calcium tantalum gallium garnet (CTGG) single crystal with dimensions of phi 25 x 40 mm(2) was grown for the first time by the Czochralski method. The structure of the crystal has been studied by the X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), and belongs to the cubic system with a space group of laid, a=12.5053(1)angstrom. The melting point of CTGG was measured to be 1546.2 degrees C. The crystal possesses a wide transmission range from UV to IR, which is advantageous for applications as a laser host material. The refractive indices were also measured by the V-prism method. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
