Modeling thermal effects on hydraulic fracturing
Temperature variations are pervasive phenomena in reservoir stimulation. To account for the important thermal influences on the pore-pressure buildup in the hydraulic-fracturing operations, this paper presents a hydraulic-fracturing model (PKN) capable of delineating the impacts of pore-pressure buildup, energy dissipation, and elastic deformation on the hydraulic-fracture geometry. This improvement over the current poroelastic PKN models may provide useful utilities in simulating hydraulic-fracturing operations where nonisothermal conditions are manifest.
