Catalysis by heteropoly acids: A convenient route for the production of methyl chloride and methyl bromide
A new continuous process for the production of methyl chloride and methyl bromide from methanol and aqueous HCl/HBr in presence of a silica supported heteropoly acid catalyst has been described. The reaction takes place in the vapour phase, and the conversion, selectivity and life of the catalyst are found to be excellent; the reaction parameters have been studied.
