Extraction of Trivalent Europium via Emulsion Liquid Membrane Containing PC-88A as Mobile Carrier
The coupled transport of europium(III) ion and hydrogen ion, via emulsion liquid membrane containing PC-88A ((2-ethylhexyl)phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester) as mobile carrier and SPAN80 as surfactant in diluent n-dodecane, has been systematically studied. The effects of carrier concentration, surfactant concentration, stirring speed, volume ratio of internal aqueous phase to membrane phase, pH of external aqueous phase, acid concentration of internal aqueous phase, etc. on the overall mass-transfer rate were investigated and discussed. From the series of experimentation, the optimum operating conditions for separation of europium(III) ion from dilute solutions employing an emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) system have been determined. These experimental results and a simple mass-transfer model may be significant contributions to further process development for europium recovery.
