Alkylation of toluene with 1,3-pentadiene catalyzed by [bupy]BF4-AlCl3 and [bupy]BF4-FeCl3 ionic liquids
A new application of ionic liquids is developed for a novel process of synthesizing pentyltoluene from toluene and a C5 diolefin (1,3-pentadiene). The catalyst [bupy]BF4-AlCl3 behaves better than [bupy]BF4-FeCl3.
