Kinetic-Study and Characterization of Poly(Acrylic Acid) and Metal-Oxide
In this work, we investigated a kinetic study of the reaction between poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and metal oxides (MO : ZnO, CaO, CuO, Al2O3, Cr2O3) by using infrared spectroscopic techniques. The experimental data were quantified by a base-line method. The amounts of reactant, reaction time, mixing speed, solvents, and temperature were also evaluated to derive the optimum condition in this reaction. The reaction patterns for PAA-MO reaction were discussed. The order of reactivity was CaO > ZnO > CuO > Al2O3 > Cr2O3 The reactions of CuO, Al2O3, and Cr2O3 with PAA did not go to completion. The structures of ZnO and CaO could be seen as representing a metal bridge structure linking two polymer chains.
