Drilling of Boreholes and Characterization of the Properties of Fractures or Shear Zones in KURT for the In-Situ Solute Migration Experiment
In-situ solute migration experiments will be accomplished to investigate the solute migration
and retardation properties in the KURT (KAERI Underground Research Tunnel), which was established in 2006 for the safety assessment of the disposal of radioactive wastes. For the in-situ experiments, boreholes were drilled and properties of fractures were characterized using Borehole Image Processing System (BIPS). The hydraulic test was also performed to investigate the connectivity of fractures and to obtain hydraulic properties. The results of this research will give information for the in-situ solute migration experiments.
