Correlation of Spark Ignition with the Local Instantaneous Mixture Fraction in a Turbulent Nonpremixed Methane Jet
The correlation between spark success in a turbulent nonpremixed methane jet flame and the mixture fraction at the spark location is examined by monitoring spark emission, from which the mixture fraction, integrated over the spark volume and duration, can be determined after calibration. It was found that ignition of the whole jet flame can be achieved even if nominally nonflammable mixture is sparked and that sparking flammable mixture does not always result in ignition.
