Influence of process parameters on corrosion behavior in a sterically hindered amine-CO2 system
Corrosion behavior in a CO2 absorption process using a sterically hindered amine, 2-amino-2methyl-1-propanol (AMP), was investigated by means of an electrochemical technique. The behavior was evaluated over ranges of three process parameters: 30-80 degrees C liquid temperature; 0.0-1.0 mol/mol of CO2 loading; 1.0-4.0 kmol/m(3) AMP concentration. Experimental results show significant effects of the three process parameters on the corrosion behavior. An increase in each parameter generally aggravates system corrosiveness. Corrosiveness in the AMP system was also compared with that in the MEA system. It was found that the AMP system induces less corrosion rate than the MEA system at elevated temperature.
