Synthesis and Structure of a New Layered Pnictide Oxide Containing Close Mn-Mn Interactions - Ba2Mn2As2O
A new compound, Ba2Mn2As2O, has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray single-crystal and Guinier, powder diffraction methods. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group I2/m with a = 7.493(4) Angstrom, b = 4.196(1) Angstrom, c = 10.352(3) Angstrom, and beta = 96.17(3)degrees (T = 130 K). The structure consists of MnAs3O tetrahedra linked; along b by bridging arsenic atoms and along c by linear Mn-O-Mn units to form planes. Close Mn-Mn distances of 3.070(2) Angstrom result in zigzagging manganese chains down the b axis.
