Buetschliite Derivative K2Zr(Bo3)2
Crystals of the new borate K2Zr(BO3)2 have been grown, and X-ray analysis has revealed that it crystallizes in the trigonal structure of the mineral buetschliite. The K and Zr atoms are distributed between planar sheets of BO3 groups. The K atom occupies a distorted hexagonal base-trigonal base O environment, and the Zr atom centers a distorted octahedron. The birefringence of the material has been determined to be 0.026.
