In this study, W/S type emulsion containing urea and α-hydroxy acid (AHA) was prepared and its stability had been observed for 4 weeks at 5, 30, and 45℃. We observed that the urea and AHA were stabilized by checking pH of the emulsion. The brightening effect of the emulsion containing urea and AHA, reported to moisturize skin and stimulate skin turnover, was evaluated through a clinical study. As a result, both pigmented zone and background color tone of the skin surface became lighter significantly after 4 weeks treatment of the W/S emulsion. In addition, the significant increase of the water content on skin surface and the improvement of the skin texture were observed after overnight treatment of the W/S emulsion.
