The 1st 8-Electron Triangular Trinuclear Cluster Compound of Tungsten Without Acetate as a Bridging Ligand - Na(W3(Mu-3-O)(Mu-Cl)3Cl6(THF)3)
The [W3(mu3-O)(mu-Cl)3Cl6(THF)3]- anion is the first example of a triangular M3(mu3-X)(mu-Y)3L9 species with no bridging RCO2- groups and eight core electrons. It is obtained in low yield when WCl3-(THF)3 in THF is oxidized by O2. The W-W distances are 2.605(1) angstrom. This proves that the 8-electron core does not require buttressing by mu-O2-CR groups.
