A Torsionally Constrained Diolate Ligand - Novel Complexes of Octahydrobinaphthol with Titanium(IV)
The torsional restrictions imposed on the C-2-symmetric diolate ligand HYDBINOH2 (5,5’,6,6’,7,7’,8,8’-octahydrobinaphthol) force it to adopt an exclusively bridging binding mode, an unusual situation in diolate chemistry. Two novel compounds based on this ligand have been structurally characterized : [Ti(HYDBINO)Cl-2](2) (1), a 14-membered metallacycle, and [Ti(HYDBINO)(2)- (O-i-Pr)(8)O-2] (2), a tetratitanium bis(mu(3)-oxo) cluster.
