Preparation, Structure, and Magnetic-Properties of Copper(II) Phosphonates - Beta-Cu-II(Ch3Po3), an Original 3-Dimensional Structure with a Channel-Type Arrangement
Various copper(II) phosphonates are obtained, according to the method of preparation : Cu(RPO(3)).H2O, alpha-Cu(RPO(3)) (R = CH3, C2H5,C6H5), beta-Cu(CH3PO3), and Cu3O(CH3PO3)2.2H(2)O. beta-Cu(CH3PO3), a = b = 16.343(6) Angstrom, c = 7.092(4) Angstrom, Z = 18, R = 0.021, and R(w) = 0.025, is rhombohedral (R (3) over bar, No. 148) and has an original channel-type arrangement. Cu3O(CH3PO3)(2).2H(2)O crystallizes in the monoclinic P2(1)/m (No. 11) space group with a = 7.125(4) Angstrom, b = 6.944(4) Angstrom c = 11.337(7) Angstrom, beta = 95.33(4)degrees, Z = 2, R = 0.055, and R(w) = 0.061. The evolution of the anhydrous alpha-Cu(RPO(3)) compounds, in water, in an autoclave at 200 degrees C, depending on the nature of the R radical, is described. Magnetic susceptibility data for all these copper phosphonates are also reported.
