Photochemistry of a Structurally Uncomplicated Phenylcarbyne Complex
[Os(NH3)(5)CPh](O3SCF3)(3) is the first example of an Os carbyne that is luminescent in fluid solution. In CH3CN the complex exhibits a broad emission centered at 632 nm with a lifetime of 55 ns. Of note is a unique base-induced quenching process that occurs with substituted pyridines.
