Chromium-Centered Imido Group-Transfer
Treatment of [Cr(N-t-Bu)(2)Cl-2] with terpy and AgBF4 have structurally characterized [Cr(N-t-Bu)(2)(terpy)](BF4)(2) (1) The imido transfer reaction of 1 with excess PMe(3) follows biphasic kinetics with rate expressions rate = k(2) [Cr][PMe(3)] and rate = k(3)[Cr][PMe(3)](2) for the first and second steps, respectively. At 25.0 degrees C in CH3CN k(2) = 0.48 +/- 0.1 M(-1) s(-1) and k(3) = 1.44 +/- 0.16 M(-2) S-1. The Cr(VI)/Cr(V) formal potential for 1 in CH3CN was determined to be -0.74V vs Cp(2)Fe(+10).
