Disproportionation of Diiron Nonacarbonyl in TNF Solution - Formation and Structure of Fe(THF)(4)(Hfe3(Co)(11))(2)
Tetrakis(tetrahydrofuran)iron(II) bis((mu-carbonyl)decacarbony(mu-hydrido)triferrate-(1-)), Fe(THF)(4)[HFe3(CO)(11)](2) (1), was isolated as a minor product of the reaction of diron nonacarbonyl and tetrahydrofuran in benzene under vacuum. Compound 1 is the first example of a transition metal complex of the HFe3(CO)(11)(-) anion and was characterized by X-ray crystallography and infrared spectroscopy. Contrary to previous reports, the reaction between Fe-2(CO)(9) and THF does not appear to produce the HFe3(CO)(11)(-) anion as the major product.
