Salts of mono-, di-, and trifluoro derivatives of CB11H12- have been prepared by reactions of [Cs]-[CB11H12] or [NMe(3)H][2-CB11H11F] with anhydrous HF at various temperatures. The new anions, prepared with high compositional and excellent isomeric purity, are 12-CB11H11F-, 2,12-CB11H10F2-, 7,12-CB11H10F2-, and 7,9,12-CB11H9F3-. The structure of [Ag(C6H6)(2)]- [12-CB11H11F] is shown here (two anions but only one cation is shown). There is no significant silver-halogen interaction : the closest Ag...F interaction is > 4.6 Angstrom.
