Synthesis and Properties of Fluorinated Ethers with Fluorobenzene Rings
The physical and chemical properties exhibited by per- and polyfluorinated ethers are unique, and make this class of compounds useful in a wide range of applications. In this study, we apply siloxane derivatives of various fluoroalcohols to the preparation of fluorinated ethers containing fluorinated aromatic moieties, e.g., C6F5CF3 + (CH3)(3)-SiOCH2(CF2)(2)CH2OSi(CH3)(3) --> [CF3C6F4OCH2CF2](2). The thermal stabilities of these polyfluorinated aromatic ethers are compared as a function of structure in the presence (or absence) of selected metals.
