New Material Design Strategy for Chromatographic Separation Steps in Bio-Recovery and Downstream Processing
The increasing demand for higher efficiency, better economy, and more sustainability in bioprocess design has led to approaches characterized by high-throughput screening and the implementation of platform technologies. The presented approach incorporates an a priori material design strategy for selective materials in combination with process development and design to address the full optimization potential of all elements involved. The design strategies are directly linked with an economic process assessment to provide quantitative data for the implementation. Different material design parameters like pore structure were varied in the presented theoretical study. A rigorous material design model is proposed for so-called irregularities within the porous system.
