This paper presents experimental results of the stress behavior of an ideal particle bed. Contrary to the current model ideas limestone and quartz fractions below 100 mu m show a significant higher influence of the particle bed height as coarse-grained materials. The cause of this higher influence is interpreted by an increasing rigidity of the particle bed depending on its height as well as the fineness of the particles.
