Synthesis of Hexanoic Acid in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide
The advantages of a process being carried out in carbon dioxide as a solvent could be demonstrated using the example of the relatively simple autocatalytic partial oxidation of hexanaol to hexanoic acid. Consequently, a promising process could be designed. Based on the experimentally determined phase equilibria and reaction data the process was simulated to obtain a reasonable mass and energy balance. From that, the costs for the hexanoic acid production have been estimated.
