Dimerized nickel(2+) chain compounds with nitro-nitrito bridges and unprecedented [Ln(NO3)(4)(CH3OH)(2)](-) anions (Ln = lanthanide). Crystal structure and magnetic properties
The dimerization of the famous Haldane gap Ni2+ chain compound with nitro-nitrito bridges (abbreviated as NENP by the physicists) has been achieved by involving two monoanions in the structure. One of these anions, [Ln(NO3)(4)(CH3OH)(2)](-), with Ln = lanthanide element or Y, is unprecedented.
