Asymmetric benzothiophene condensation facilitated by platinum(II). The distinct roles of platinum(II) and palladium(II)
The ligand 2,6-bis(o-cyanophenylthiomethyl)pyridine reacts with Pt(II) and Pd(II) to produce a complex with rearrangent of the original ligand: a benzothiophene condensation on one arm is obtained in the case of Pt(II) but in the case of Pd(II) the two arms of the ligand have reacted to produce a totally aromatic system.
