Synthesis, characterization, crystal structures, and reactions of trigonal bipyramidal tin(IV) complexes containing a tetradentate tripodal tristhiolatophosphine ligand. Use in the one-step synthesis of an iron(IV) complex
Reactions of PhSnCl3 with the lithium salts of the tristhiolates, [P(C6H4-2-S)(3)](3-), (PS3)(3-), [P(C6H3-5-Me-2-S)(3)](3-), (P'S-3)(3-) and [P(C6H3-3-Me3Si-2-S)(3)](3-), (P " S-3)(3-), in thf at 0 degrees C, afford the corresponding distorted, trigonal bipyramidal complexes PhSn(PS3) (1), PhSn(P'S-3) (2), and PhSn(P " S-3) (3). The crystal structure of each complex was obtained. Addition of solid FeCl3 (2 equiv) to a CH2Cl2 solution of 3 caused the immediate formation of the purple iron(IV) complex [FeCl(P " S-3)].
