Effects of Free-Stream Turbulence Intensity on Heat and Mass Transfers at the Surface of a Circular-Cylinder and an Elliptic Cylinder, Axis Ratio 4
Effect of free stream turbulence intensity ranging from 1.5 to 40% and of air velocity ranging from 0.5 to 5.0 m s(-1) on transfer coefficients has been measured for a circular cylinder (d = 0.1 m) and an elliptical cylinder (a = 0.2 m, R = 4) in cross-flow. The effect of turbulence intensity appeared to be as important as the influence of velocity and seemed to be independent of the pressure gradient and of the degree of turbulence isotropy. One relation for each of the two cylinders has been established to describe all the experimental data. It appeared also that the transfers are much less affected by the axis ratio of the cylinder than by the air flow properties.
