Turbulence Model for Flow-Through Porous-Media
The macroscopic governing equations for the turbulent flow through porous media consisting of packed spheres are examined and the 0-equation model is proposed. In the process of deriving the macroscopic governing equations by using the local volume averaging technique, we consider the effective eddy diffusivity as the algebraic sum of the eddy diffusivities estimated from two types of vortices : (i) the pseudo vortex of the order of the particle diameter, and (ii) the interstitial vortex between the solid. particles. Furthermore, it is shown that the 0-equation model proposed in this study can predict the flow and heat transfer characteristics at high Reynolds number.
