Temperature distribution in swirling jets
Analytical solutions of the energy equation are obtained showing strong effects of flow swirl : (sr) significant increase in heat exchange, (b) heal isolation of a wall, (c) formation of temperature fronts and (d) flame stabilization in vortex burners. Two problems are studied in detail : (i) a point source of heat at the origin of a swirling jet submerged in an infinite fluid and (ii) heat transfer from an isothermal wall near a swirling jet. The paper explains the physical mechanism of effects (a-d) and shows the means to control them.
