Generation of Bronsted Acid Sites on Alumina-supported Tantalum(V) Oxide Calcined at 1223 K
An alumina-supported tantalum(V) oxide (Ta(2)O(5)/Al(2)O(3)) calcined at 1223 K promoted the Friedel-Crafts alkylation of anisole with benzyl alcohol, and exhibited Bronsted acidity despite the high-temperature calcination. Among the Ta(2)O(5)/Al(2)O(3) catalysts tested, 33 wt % Ta(2)O(5)/Al(2)O(3) calcined at 1223 K showed the highest activity.
