A New Criterion for the Continuous Operation of Supersettlers in the Bottom Feeding Mode
By considering the hydrodynamic interaction between the suspension and the concentrated sediment in an inclined settler operation continuously in the bottom feeding mode, a new upper bound is derived for the maximum value of the volumetric feed rate which can be tolerated under a given set of conditions. This criterion is distinct from the familiar Ponder-Nakamura-Kuroda formula which results from applying simple kinematic arguments.
