Tetraphenylethylene (TPE) derivatives have attracted increasing intention for various applications, notably, construction of numerous aggregation-induced emission materials such as small organic molecules, main-chain polymers, and hyperbranched polymers. Here, we synthesized 1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4-(bromomethyl)phenyl)-ethylene using 4,4′-dimethylbenzophenone as a starting material. Accordingly, the Tetraphenylethylene derivative was first prepared by reacting 4,4′-dimethylbenzophenone in the presence of Zn powder and TiCl4. After purified by column chromatography, the resultant 1,1,2,2-tetra-p-tolylethene was reacted with N-Bromosuccinimide to generate the desired product. The structures of the intermediate and product were confirmed by NMR analysis. |
