PA-PDMS (polyamide-polydimethylsiloxane) composites and PAI (polyamideimide)-PDMS composites were prepared and investigated. The results of TEM analysis showed that the difference in opaqueness was the result of different particle sizes in each composite. The PDMS particle size in the PA-PDMS composite was on a μ-scale, while those of the PAI-PDMS composite was roughly on a nm scale. Molecular weight played important role in affecting the size of PDMS particles, and this was proven by using the same polymer (PA) with different molecular weight. Unlike the original PA, PA with lower molecular weight produced transparent PA-PDMS nanocomposites. The mechanical properties were largely affected by molecular weight, however, the thermal property was not affected by it as much. In case of the PA-PDMS composite water-resisting quality improved greatly, and toughness was most improved when 30 wt% DEDMS and 30 wt% coupling agent was added to the polymer. |
