Side-chain extended polypropylene nanocomposites were preapared by compounding maleated EPR(EPR-g-maleic anhydride) and maleated PP with organophilic clay modified with hexamethylene diamine (HMDA supplied from Aldrich Chem. And Jeffamine D-230). The formation of characteristic amide linkages and the semi-exfoliation structure between silicates layers are confirmed. In the XRD results, they show exfoliated structure. TGA results show thermal decomposition temperature is also increased compared to virgin PP. In DSC results, we can find the heat of fusion is decreased with increasing inorganic clay contents. It’s thought that crystallization of polypropylene nanocomposites is suppressed by the clay layers. The PP nanocomposites shows enhanced property compared to virgin PP. |
