We highlight some key technologies recently developed in stretchable substrates, stretchable interconnections, and stretchable thin film transistors (TFTs) which are essential for realizing stretchable electronic devices including stretchable display backplanes, organic-based sensors, solar cells, and self-healing electronic devices. In the present work, we demonstrate new techniques for fabricating well-controlled wavy metal interconnects on stress-free elastomeric substrates, where active device for TFT are locally defined as flat and rigid regions. In these techniques, the active device areas are formed as high-stiffness elastomer or thick polyimide islands, which show relatively small or nearly no strain even under a large amount of external stress. |
