Corneal reconstruction is carried out by scaffold for repair of a damaged cornea. Taurine(Ta) is involved in cartilage physiopathology. Ta was known to promote the expression of connective tissue growth factor that has the ability to repair damaged articular cartilage. Silk fibroin (SF) has good biocompatibility and easy processing, so it is used as a tissue engineering scaffold as an alternative. Ta/SF scaffolds were fabricated with 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 2mM Ta. Fabricated Ta/SF scaffolds were analyzed using FESEM, contact angle, transparency, FTIR, MTT assay, mRNA expression, etc. Results showed that 0.25mM loaded Ta/SF scaffolds have good cell proliferation. As well, Ta/SF scaffolds were found to support cell growth and forms hexagonal morphology with well-maintained biofunctions. Thus, the Ta/SF scaffolds can be used as a suitable alternative for cornea transplantation with good water mobility. |
