Surface plasmonic effects of metal nanoparticles can play an important role in photonic, electronic, and bio systems such as solar cells, light emitting diodes, and bio-sensors. For applications of surface plasmons in optoelectronics and sensors, uniform films of metal nanoparticles with controlled plasmonic bands are necessary over large areas. In this study, we fabricated multilayer films of polyelectrolytes with gold nanoparticles by the layer-by-layer (LbL) assembling technique for the control of plasmonic bands associated with gold nanoparticles. In addition, by the thermal treatment on these LbL assemblies, gold islands with the controlled size in the nanometer scale were generated by the agglomeration of gold nanoparticles, which can be applied to plasmonic applications. |
