제목 Design of MFI-type zeolite catalyst having improved external-coke resistance in methane dehydroaromatization reaction
초록 For decades, ZSM-5 zeolites have received considerable industrial attention due to their broad catalytic applicability and flexibility in synthesis. However, the conventional hydrothermal synthesis of ZSM-5 leads to the enrichment of Al-sites in the outer region of crystals. This inherent compositional heterogeneity can be disadvantageous because it can promote the formation of external coke in many catalytic reactions at high temperatures, such as methane dehydroaromatization (MDA) reaction. Here, we investigated the effects of the external Al-enrichment of conventional ZSM-5 in MDA reaction by testing crystals of different mean sizes and a controlled Si/Al ratio. The results confirmed that the disadvantage of increased external surface acidity outweighs the benefit of improved mass transfer in the MDA reaction. To resolve this issue, we prepared core-shell structured MFI (ZSM-5@silicalite-1) zeolites. Their crystalline structure was analyzed by SEM, TEM and XPS. The ZSM-5@silicalite-1 catalysts showed improved catalytic properties compared to the conventional ZSM-5. Our findings may provide insight to design ZSM-5 catalysts having improved external-coke resistance.
