제목 Halogen free flame retardant using calcium carbonate and organic silane coupling agent
초록 The flame retardancy of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) combined with an organic silane in maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene was investigated. CaCO3 can be used as a filler or flame retardant for composites and is an additive that can reduce the cost and flame retardancy. An organic silane coupling agent can improve the compatibility between polyolefin and CaCO3 and serve to form dense char layer in combustion. The mechanical properties of all composites were measured by universal testing machine (UTM). Reduction in heat release rates (HRR) were observed due to appreciable char formation by 45 wt% loading with CaCO3. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of CaCO3 showed that the decomposition of CaCO3 above 600℃ produce the char and act a protective layer on the surfaces. The improvement of limited oxygen index (LOI) with the addition of an organic silane was also confirmed.
