Charge carrier generation of conductive polymers by external stimuli has led energy conversion in a thin polymer film. In particular photothermal conversion of conductive polymers by NIR light has been attracted for new energy harvesting methods as well as biomedical engineering. Among the conductive polymers, thin films of polythiophene derivatives have shown interesting photothermal properties arising from their effective carrier transport plus low thermal conductivity. In order to enhance the efficiency and understand the mechanism of the photothermal conversion, conductive polymer coated bilayer films were explored. The molecular structure and composition of the bilayer were critical to the photothermal efficiency, which was formulated according to several factors. In this presentation the mechanism and application potential of the photothermal bilayer will be presented. |
