Pt-based Catalysts for the Preferential CO Oxidation |

Pt-Ni/γ-Al2O3 and Pt-Co/Y-ZrO2 were selected as promising catalysts for the preferential CO oxidation to remove a residual CO in hydrogen stream not to deactivate anode of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). Effects of preparation and reaction variables on CO conversion were examined over both catalysts. CO chemisorption, temperature programmed reduction (TPR), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were conducted to find out the cause of enhanced catalytic activity. The bimetallic phase of Pt-Ni and Pt-Co appeared to be essential for selective CO oxidation especially at low temperatures. |
