제목 Extremely low hydrogen permeable perfluorinated sulfonic acid ionomer membranes for polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis
초록 Polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis(PEMWE) is an electrochemically effective water electrolysis employing a polymer electrolyte membrane(PEM) to separate H2 and O2 easily in high purity level. Nafion membrane as representative PEM material in PEMWE shows excellent chemical durability and proton transport capability, while it is leaky membrane to product gases, particularly H2. Depending on PEMWE operation pressures, the membrane thickness is controlled. For example, thick Nafion117 is used as the most popular membrane under a high pressure condition (e.g.,700 bar) to minimize H2 flux. It, however, induce high resistance to proton transport, high volumetric capacity in stack formation, and cost issues. In this presentation, several methods will be dealt with to solve these critical problems occurring in Nafion membrane. It includes membrane formation using nanodispersion of Nafion ionomer and the use of other perfluorinated sulfonic acid ionomers with short-side chains.
