The HNS spilled in the ocean exhibits evaporate, float, dissolve and sink due to its properties. Among them, some types of HNS sinks to the seabed and are difficult to control as it spreads far away by ocean currents. Therefore, it is desirable to immobilize and remove HNS on the seabed. In this study, hydrophobic Activated carbon (AC)/ Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) sorbent was presented for sedimented HNS spill removal. LLDPE is suitable for making films for sorbents due to its flexibility and toughness. AC blended with LLDPE forms a pathway to ensure film fluidity and increase swelling. In addition, the prepared sorbent has a hole, when it contacts with the HNS, the surrounding water is drained and the contact area increases, thereby increasing the absorption rate. The swollen AC/LLDPE sorbent has elastic and flexible properties and can be removed using a pump. In conclusion, the hydrophobic AC/LLDPE sorbent prevent diffusion of sedimented HNS and can be removed with a pump due to its sorbent properties. Thus, our research gives one of the options for underwater sorbents to clean up HNS in the ocean floor. |
