제목 Sulfated polysaccharide derived from a novel red algae Pyropia yezoensis Sookwawon 104 with in vitro antiproliferative activity through gamma irradiation
초록 In this study, the sulfated polysaccharide of Pyropia yezoensis Sookwawon 104 obtained by gamma irradiation and its low molecular weight derivatives were investigated. Gamma-irradiation showed changes in Mw distribution, but did not cause significant changes in sulfate group content and monosaccharide composition. In vitro antiproliferative assays indicated that Mw had a significant effect on the antitumor activity of sulfated polysaccharides. Low molecular weight polysaccharides exhibited stronger antiproliferative effects than PYSPs, and potential mechanisms may include cell growth inhibition. Strong further studies of in vivo antitumor assays are urgently needed prior to further research and development of PYSP and its degradation derivatives. However, the present findings promote the development and utilization of polysaccharides of P. yezoensis Sookwawon 104 as promising candidates for cancer adjuvant therapy.
