Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is an attractive candidate as a sustainable monomer. 1,4-Butanediol (BD) can be also considered as a green monomer. Branched poly[1,4-butylene carbonate-co-terephthalate]s (PBCTs) has been synthesized by the addition of a small amount of trifunctional or tetrafunctional alcohol monomers in the polycondensation of BD, DMC and dimethyl terephthalate(DMT) and their properties have been investigated. When alcohol monomers were fed, an high MW was reached in a short reaction time, and the yield increased to higher than 90%. The generated PBCTs were a semicrystalline polymer. The crystallization rate increased with increasing terephthalate content and branch content. The branched PBCT exhibited more pronounced toughness in tensile test while providing the advantage of processibility at high shear rates due to the pronounced shear thinning in melt. The PBCTs were degradable by a buffer solution containing a lipase. |
