제목 Temperature-Responsive Fire-Extinguishing Microcapsules Produced via in-situ PMMA Suspension Polymerization
초록 This study introduces apractically useful approach for fabrication of multi-layered fire extinguishingmicrocapsules (FECs) which burst a fire extinguisher (EA) at targetemperatures. For this, mechanically robust FECs consisting of EA core and apolymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) shell were fabricated from EA-in-water emulsion.We further incorporated an outer polyurethane (PU) shell layer by conductingin-situ condensation polymerization at the interface of FECs. Finally, thereleasing temperatures of EA were controlled depending on the degree ofpolymerization of PU, which was confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis. Theseresults highlight that a smart fire extinguishing technology could be developedby controlled engineering of shell layers.
