제목 | The Effect of Chain Architecture of In-Situ Formed Copolymers on Interfacial Morphology of Reactive Polymer Blends |
초록 | The effect of chain architecture of in-situ formed copolymers on interfacial morphology of reactive polymer blends was investigated by atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Monofunctional glycidyl methacrylate-terminated polystyrene (PS-GMA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) with carboxylic acid functional groups (PMMA-COOH), which were both synthesized anionically, were sequentially spin-coated on silicone wafer and reacted at 180 oC for various times. To allow different molecular architechures of in-situ formed copolymers, three different kinds of PMMA-COOH were synthesized, where the positions of carboxylic acid functional groups were located at a third, the middle, and the end of the PMMA chain. We found that the chain architectures of copolymers formed in-situ at the interface significantly affected the reaction rate and interface roughness. Although the reaction rate for the formation of the Y-shaped graft copolymer from the mid-functionalized PMMA-COOH is slower than that of diblock copolymer from the end-functionalized PMMA-COOH, the interface area generated by the former was larger than that generated by the latter. |
