Hydrogen Production System Utilizing Ammonia |

To curb climate change, clean and sustainable energy carriers such as hydrogen have extensively been studied particularly in conjunction with renewable energies. To commercialize hydrogen for cost-effective energy carrier, it is necessary to explore an efficient and cheep hydrogen storage material. In this contribution, we initially studied ammonia as a potential hydrogen storage material and developed its dehydrogenation catalysts. Further, we successfully demonstrated hydrogen production and purification system. The ammonia-fuled reactor packed with lanthanum promoted Ru/Al2O3 pellets produced hydrogen continuously with a rate of 13.5L/min, which can power a 1kW-class PEMFSs. In addition adsorption materials for hydrogen purification showed that unreacted ammonia could be removed below 1ppm to prevent poisoning the fuel cell’s anode catalyst. |
